Lyrics

Earlier today, I was thinking about how meaningful some song lyrics can be. Some that don't seem to be ("If I were a carpenter, and you were a lady, would you marry me anyway; would you have my baby?") can have a lot to them, and how some have more and more meaning each time you hear them ("It's those pills that you don't need to take, medicating perfection now that's a mistake").
This evening, we were joking about how I should audition for American Idol. Steverino asked me "what song would you sing?" I think that if I ever had to put myself out there like that, I'd sing "Stand By Me." If you really listen to the lyrics, they're so amazing.

"When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me"

So anyway, that's just a brief rambling on how much song lyrics mean to me.

What lyrics have a lot of meaning for you?

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
--"Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield

*SNIP* It might not a classic, but it's my absolute favorite song. I can't think of another song that rings so true to me.

So many things I could put here. Basically, if you think of lyrics you like, that's what I like too. But these words pull at my heart every time I hear them, so:

"If I could, I would shrink myself
Sink through your skin to your blood cells
Remove whatever makes you hurt
But I am too weak to be your cure"
--Brand New-Guernica

and on a happier note:
"All you need is love"

Which is something I truly believe. Also the Beatles are amazing.

Sam,

I would like to first say that, I am pretty new here but I really love most of your work. You are such a wonderful writer, and you are quite pretty as well.

I have some lyrics of mine...I just love this song by Michelle Branch. It is entitled "Goodbye to You". Also, I wanted to mention this but, I saw that you have another blog...by the way, I hope that you will be able to accomplish all 101 items that you mentioned. One thing about the grudge thing. I hope that you are able to forgive this person that you have a grudge against. Holding grudges against people that you care about, only damages you in the long run. Alright, here are the lyrics:

Of all the things I believe in
I just want to get it over with
tears from behind my eyes
but I do not cry
Counting the days that past me by

I've been searching deep down in my soul
Words that I'm hearing are starting to get old
Looks like I'm starting all over again
The last three years were just pretend and I say

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew
You were the one I love
The one thing that I tried to hold on to

I still get lost in your eyes
And it seems like I can't live a day without you
Closing my eyes till you chase my thoughts away
To a place where I am blinded by the light but it's not right

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing that I tried to hold on to

Ohhh yeah
It hurts to want everything & nothing at the same time
I want whats yours and I want whats mine
I want you but I'm not giving in this time

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing that I tried to hold on to
The one thing that I tried to hold on to

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing that I tried to hold on to

We the stars fall and I lie awake
Your my shooting star
